Emergency Triage

ØIs the process of determining priority of care based on a comprehensive patient’s initial assessment to:

• Get the right patient
• To the right place
• At the right time
• With the right care provided

ØTriage is done by trained emergency nurses.
ØEmergency Medicine Department applies the Canadian Triage & Acuity Scale (CTAS) as triage system.
ØCTAS is a five level acuity rating system.
ØThe EMD registered triage nurse assigns acuity based on chief complaint and a focused subjective and objective assessment.
